Francisco Alves is an awarded Portuguese surfer. At just 24 years old, he was Liga Moche’s National Champion. His future goals include:
But what the hell is a Univangelist anyway, you ask? Simple:
1. A role model for our students. Someone who has made incredible accomplishments and inspires the millennial generation.
We hit some waves with him (nah, we wish) and asked him a few questions:
Hey Chico, how does it feel to be the National Champ?
It feels amazing. I’ve been competing since a really young age and I’ve had a lot of ups and downs! Competition is a long road and we have to keep smiling because surfers have the best job in the world.
Being a surfer brings out the best of me and the simple fact that I’m able to travel around the world always reminds me that I’m doing what I love.
Are you dedicating this season to anyone?
I’m dedicating this season to myself and to the ones who support me throughout my victories and my losses! I also can’t forget the ones who’ve been with me since day one. The best part of this long journey is to see the people you love so happy, especially when you win.
What’s your dream destination?
Fiji. It’s an amazing place and I dream about going there since I was really young. Every time someone talks about Fiji, I just want to go there in that exact second. The waves look amazing and the island looks really beautiful.
What’s your proudest and scariest moment in your life so far?
My proudest moment is for sure being a father for the first time. My scariest moment was when I was going to Indonesia and the plane started to bounce so hard that I really thought the plane was going to crash. Even scarier was the fact that the one before mine crashed on that exact area (M087- Malaysia Airlines) just a couple of hours before.
Nowadays I get really scared on airplanes, but I had a few really scary episodes while surfing too. One time I was surfing in G-Land (Indonesia) late in the day and a huge shark fin just popped up a few metres in front of me and I looked at it and froze. That was really scary too.
What was the best part of your student experience?
The best part of my student experience was the fact that I made friends for life. I also learned important things that I can use on a daily basis.
How does it feel to be an evangelist of one Europe’s coolest startups?
It’s an amazing feeling. I love startups and being involved with such a good and well-known startup like Uniplaces feels even better!
Last but not least, please share your top 3 music tracks with us.
