When you book student accommodation with us, you have to authorise your payment to finish a booking request. After that, you’re asked to wait 48 hours. Some people asked us:
“I tried to book student accommodation with you – why do I have to wait 48 hours after finishing a booking request?”
The short answer is that technically you don’t. You don’t have to wait 48 hours. If you authorised the payment, you have just finished making your booking request and we’re trying to reach your new landlord to get a confirmation. It usually takes less than 12 hours. Many of our students actually get this confirmation within the hour. But if our landlords are not immediately available, they get UP TO 48 hours to confirm your booking request. If they don’t answer within those 48 hours, we’ll find a more responsive landlord with some great quality student accommodation alternatives just for you.
“I don’t want to wait 48 hours to get confirmation when I book student accommodation”
If you’re in a hurry and you don’t want to wait for 48 hours, look out for the orange labels on our search pages. They read “Exclusive to Uniplaces – Instant Booking.” that means exactly what you’d think they mean. By booking an Exclusive property, you get an automatic confirmation. Of course we only offer Exclusive status to our most trusted and reliable landlords, the ones with the best student accommodation to offer. That’s why the same recommendation goes here: book your student accommodation as early as you can. These properties get booked up really fast.
“I tried to book student accommodation but didn’t authorise the reservation payment. Will the landlord still answer in 48 hours?”
Your booking request is only sent to the landlord AFTER you have authorised the payment. So if you don’t follow through with it, the landlord can’t answer you. Which means you could wait a very long time. Make sure you fill out everything in the Payment page (check out this link for instructions). If you do, you’ll get an email saying your reservation payment has been authorised and we’re contacting the landlord. Check your spam folder if you don’t find this and if it’s not there, contact our customer support team.
Remember: authorising a payment doesn’t mean your putting that money in our hands. We don’t take money from your bank account until the landlord confirms your booking. (Check this post out for more information on what happens to your reservation payment).
That’s the long and short of it, the answer to most questions we get related to the 48 hour wait.
