5 Instagram Worthy Spots in Madrid

[video src=""][video src=""]

Home to numerous works of art, countless iconic monuments and a few of the world’s finest soccer teams, Madrid is a destination that draws an ever-growing attention. In 2017 alone, the city hosted 6.7 million visitors, the greatest amount ever recorded in the country’s history.

So if you are like all of us who are craving to get to know this global city, buckle up! We are taking you on a tour to Madrid’s 5 most instagrammable spots.

1. Mondatidos

Indulge yourself with the local cuisine

If you’ve ever been to Spain, you are probably familiar with these little treats: priceless little sandwiches stuffed with basically any (and I mean any) possible filling you can think of. This somewhat modern take on the tapas culture has been around in Spain for a long time, but in recent years has been popularised through chain restaurants around the country, as a fast food approach to the traditional bocadillo culture in Spain.

They can put quite a show on your Instagram feed (and belly) for about 1€ each. Can you believe that??

2. El Prado Museum

Dive headfirst in one of its greatest museums

I know what you might be thinking: “A museum? Really?”. But El Prado isn’t just like any other museum. Home to masterpieces spanning from the 12th century up to the 20th century, El Prado has the most famous art collection in Spain (with somewhere around 13.000 items in its inventory).

From national artists like Goya and Velázquez, to foreign masters like El Greco and Rubens, El Prado’s collection is definitely a must go to during your upcoming visit to Madrid, as well as a valuable addition to your media profile!

The general ticket costs 15€, but to avoid the toll you can just go by the museum from 6pm to 8pm from Monday to Saturday or 5pm to 7pm on Sundays and holidays and the entrance is free! On top of that students between 18 and 25 years old get in without paying all year long, so you’re out of excuses to not spend your afternoons alongside the great works art.

3. The streets of La Latina

Explore the endless streets of the capital

Filled with great tapa bars and narrow streets, La Latina is one of the (if not the most) traditional neighbourhoods in the Spanish capital. Besides the bohemian atmosphere, this part of town hosts numerous historical buildings and architectural landmarks due to its medieval origins (most of the streets in the heart of La Latina are as old as 400 years).

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to take some awesome photos of Plaza Mayor (the heart of downtown Madrid) and El Rastro (the biggest flea market in all of Spain) during your tour on La Latina. They are bound to be a major boost on your Instagram!

4. Santiago Bernabéu Stadium

Witness a match of today’s finest football players

Home to the Real Madrid football team, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium has hosted countless breathtaking matches over more than 70 years. Even if you are not a major sports fan, the energy there is so passionate and overwhelming, that it’s useless to fight it.

In addition to the sheer and raw energy that flows during the games, you might even be lucky enough to take a snapshot of your favourite player during the match. Enjoy LaLiga (Spanish league) games, Champions League and La Copa del Rey (King’s Cup) throughout the year, Real Madrid normally makes it to the very end of all competitions!

5. Retiro Park

Chill at a plaza like a true Spaniard

Last but (certainly) not least, no stay in Madrid would be complete without a siesta in the Retiro Park. Stretching over 1.800.000 m2 and almost 400 years old, this park is a fundamental part of the madrileño identity. The park is filled with long grass fields, numerous bird species and long shaded public walks, ideal for an afternoon stroll or even a picnic.

During your visit don’t forget to take a couple of photos of the main lake, the rose garden and the unique wildlife that inhabits this urban park, which includes native birds, red squirrels and even small tortoises.
