Learn Portuguese for free in Lisbon and Coimbra

Like everybody else in Uniplaces, I believe that nothing in this world makes us come alive like a new experience. We believe that studying in another country is a unique opportunity to live and learn and that if you want to go, you have to do so. We’re here to help. Bureaucracy and distance, fears and misconceptions – these things don’t stop us, and they shouldn’t stop you.

SPEAK: a nonprofit organisation

The guys at SPEAK are here with us to fight the good fight. From Lisbon, Coimbra, Caldas and Leiria they are  trying to make this world easier for people who want to move or have just moved to a new country. What they offer is pretty simple:

– You can learn Portuguese, or choose another language course
– You can volunteer to teach your language

At Speak you’ll find locals and migrants meeting together learning and teaching languages. As a result, it is also a great place to meet new people from all over the world, a crossroads where cultures meet.

Learning Portuguese only costs 12€ – and if you go to at least 10 classes you get that money back. Entering any other course (including Japanese, Sign language, English and Russian) costs you only 25€ which is really cheap – especially if you finish the course, as you get €13 back. But if you become a volunteer teacher, you can take any lanugage course for free. You could be learning Portguese for free in Lisbon or Coimbra  and be helping out the local community at the same time, teaching your mother-tongue to those who are keen to learn.
