We all have our favourite bars. We gather around tables with friends, we toast to this and that and the glass is always full. If you’re studying in Lisbon and feel kind of tired of going every single time to the same place, read this carefully. These 5 bars in Lisbon will blow your mind and we’re here to tell you why. Here’s to all those nights you actually remember!
Clube Ferroviário is a bar near Santa Apolónia, with one of the best views over the river. When you enter it, it feels like you’re stepping into a train with a gin and tonic in your hand. The seats, the tracks and the mind blowing views: the whole bar is decorated with everything you might find in a train. They have great concerts and events, especially in Spring and Summer. It’s one of the best bars in Lisbon to go watch the sun set or to have a cocktail after dinner. The terrace is not to be missed.
When it comes to cocktails Cinco Lounge is the place to go. Don’t even look at the menu – ain’t nobody got time for that! Just head over to the bar, and ask Zé Maria (the bartender) for a suggestion. He’ll ask what type of cocktails you usually drink, and he will come up with your new favourite cocktail in the blink of an eye (cross my heart, I’ve seen it happen a couple of times). Cinco Lounge, near Principe Real, is a dream come true for cocktail lovers. Hands down the best cocktails and bartender of all the bars in Lisbon.
Welcome to Middle Ages. Trobadores is a medieval bar near Terreiro do Paço that will make you travel in time. There’s live music with bagpipes at least once a week, they serve Portuguese sausage on fire and they don’t serve beers in normal glasses, you have to drink them from horns and clay glasses. I’m sure if you’re doing Erasmus in Lisbon, this will be an experience to remember and make your friends back home jealous. The best of the few themed bars in Lisbon.
Botequim, in Graça, is a historical bar of Lisbon. It’s known because all the intellectuals would gather here during the seventies and eighties. It’s probably one of the most atmospheric of all the bars in Lisbon. When you enter this tiny bar you can imagine the poetry readings and all the wine drank while discussing politics. Take some time to enjoy the views of the Miradouro da Graça and head to Botequim for a beer or two, you will breathe in the history of those walls.
Well, this is, personally, my favourite of all the bars in Lisbon. Cruzes Credo is right near Lisbon’s Cathedral and it’s the best place to go not just for drinks but for food as well. The atmosphere is quirky, with a kind of retro, vintage decoration, and the music is quite good if you’re into alternative rock. Take a seat, ask for a cocktail and if the drinking makes you hungry, ask for the menu. The alheira hamburger is absolutely delicious but it’s kind of addictive! Once you have the first bite you’ll come back to Cruzes Credo begging for more.
So, what are you waiting for? Talk to your friends and head to the best bars in Lisbon. Like How I Met Your Mother had MacLaren’s and Friends had Central Perk you can have your own ‘same old bar’ in Lisbon.
