Lisbon is a laid back city that likes to eat, drink and dance. Make the most of the awesome weather at the beaches, chilling at riverside cafés or sunbathing in the city’s gardens. From enjoying a few beers in the streets to crazy Erasmus events in bars and clubs, there are parties to go to every night.
If you’re looking for student accommodation in town, you might want to start with the most popular neighbourhoods of Lisbon! The map below will show you where students have been booking accommodation in 2015 and 2016:
The Most Popular Neighbourhoods of Lisbon
You can see on the map that clearly, the most popular area of Lisbon right now is along Avenida Almirante Reis – Anjos, Arroios and Alameda are all very hot right now. Other popular neighbourhoods brought no surprise: Marquês de Pombal, especially in the area where it’s most affordable (South East corner), the student favourite São Sebastião and the most typical neighbourhoods: Santos, Bica and Bairro Alto.
Almirante Reis is one of Lisbon’s longest and most multicultural avenues. The rents are generally affordable and you’ll find plent of cool, authentic neighbourhoods, from the very hip Intendente neighbourhood to the more diamond-in-the-rough Arroios. The area of Alameda, at the end of Almirante Reis, is where a huge proportion of Portuguese students end up living while studying.

Marquês de Pombal
Marquês de Pombal’s is one of the busiest neighbourhoods in the city. Busy and well-connected, you could call Marquês the pulse of the city. The areas north and west of Marquês tend to be very businessy with high rents, so you find most students and young professionals prefer to move South and West, towards Pena and Arroios.
Interested? Here you can find plenty of rooms in Marquês de Pombal.
São Sebastião is a residential neighbourhood with many students and a great quality of life. Low rents, plenty of cafés, a huge department store for shoppaholics and well-connected to the rest of the city. You can see why it’d be popular.

Santos, Bica & Bairro Alto
Santos is a traditional neighbourhood with large bars, nightclubs and a huge tradition of student parties. It has a great, relaxed atmosphere during the day but Santos really comes alive at night.
Living in Bica will make you feel like you’re living in a postcard. That’s kind of cool. The fact that at night the pretty and peaceful street becomes a bustling street party is a great bonus of course.
Bairro Alto should not need an introduction at this point. It is the world capital for street parties: every weekend the whole neighbourhood becomes one massive street party. And that makes it an Erasmus favourite. Obviously .P
