It’s September 1st and you know what that means: the Hogwarts Express leaves at exactly 11 o’clock at King’s Cross station. This year, however, some of the students won’t be attending school at Hogwarts. Instead, they’re doing Erasmus and spending a semester in a Muggle university. Check out where 9 “Harry Potter” students would go on Erasmus:
Hermione Granger — Sorbonne, Paris, France
The Panthéon-Sorbonne University represents the largest and most ancient university in France: it would be impossible for Hermione to resist its charm. Additionally, Paris is home to some of the most beautiful libraries in Europe, such as the Mazarina Library and the Sainte-Geneviéve Library. As she always says, when in doubt, go to the library!
Ron Weasley — Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland
Ron is not overly enthusiastic about the idea of going on Erasmus, so he would choose a place close to home where he could blend in nicely with other redheads, and above all some place where he could still drink a lot of Butterbeer. His destination is Dublin, home to the famous Guinness Butterbeer!
Harry Potter — University of Bologna, Italy
Harry would be more than happy to take a break from trying to defeat Lord Voldemort every year, and a semester studying Criminology for Investigation and Security at the University of Bologna would come in handy for the Battle of Hogwarts, and for his future career as an Auror. It’d also be a nice opportunity for him to get to know Muggles who are actually nice to him.
Draco Malfoy — Durmstrang, Somewhere in Scandinavia
Actually, Draco would never accept mixing with Muggles. He would choose to go to Durmstrang, one of the schools that participated in the Triwizard Tournament, as it only accepts Pure Bloods. He’d be able to deepen his knowledge of the Dark Arts and find more students to make fun of. His father would be pleased to hear about this.
Luna Lovegood — Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania
You know Luna wouldn’t choose an ordinary destination. She would go to the mountaintops of Transylvania to study Romanian and German Language and Literature at the Transylvania University of Brasov. In her free time, you’d most likely find her befriending a few vampires and asking them all about Count Dracula — and avoiding the population of Nargles in the area.
Seamus Finnigan — Kingston University, London, Great Britain
Having a particular proclivity for pyrotechnics, Seamus would be delighted to leave his Irish hometown and spend a semester in Kingston University in London, of course specialising in the Centre for Fire & Explosion Studies. His Muggle dad would be so proud.
Dean Thomas — Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, Lisbon, Portugal
Dean would be super excited to move to Lisbon for a semester and study at the Faculdade de Motricidade Humana to study Sport Management. The riverside city would be a paradise for this West Ham fan, and he’d perfectly mingle amongst Muggles cheering at Sporting CP and SL Benfica football matches.
Neville Longbottom — University of Helsinki, Finland
A perfect excuse to get away from his grandmother, Neville would fit in perfectly at the University of Helsinki’s Plant Biology programme. We’re guessing it’s as important to learn about “the genotypic, functional and morphological differences between plants” as it is to learn about Gillyweed and Mandrakes, so a Muggle programme would be the perfect addition to his curriculum before becoming the Herbology teacher at Hogwarts.
Fred and George Weasley — BAU International Berlin – University of Applied Sciences, Germany
Entrepreneurs and jokers at heart, the Weasley twins would perfectly blend in at Berlin’s University of Applied Sciences, more specifically in their Product Design course. They’d certainly be the two most innovative students at the university, what with all the new products they would create for their Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes joke shop. We wonder what the Muggle students would think when they unveiled the Portable Swamp and Extendable Ear…
Thanks for reading this post!
But we all really wish we could go to Hogwarts, right? Meanwhile, in the Muggle world, remember that if you need student accommodation, you’ll find the perfect student home on Uniplaces.
