8 Things Students Should Do in Valencia in the Spring

Pablo del Campo

Valencia’s weather is getting warmer and the terraces are filling up. If you happen to find yourself bored in the next few weeks, check out our list of 8 things students should do in Valencia in the spring:

1. Find what you need in Il Market

A post shared by Il Quartiere (@ilquartiere) on

The 13th edition of Il Market, a second hand market in Valencia, is coming up on April 30. It’s a new market concept that offers a space to all those who want to give a second chance to articles they no longer use, encouraging reuse and collaborative consumption. Perfect for students, especially since admission is free!

2. Laugh off the rainy days with some improv

Circuito Café Teatro Valencia is your answer to the saddest days of spring. They organise a series of shows that tour different locations in the city every Thursday to Sunday. Expect to laugh at their monologues, humorous songs, comic magic, improvisation and hypnosis. It’s the perfect way to sharpen your Spanish! Admission is €3 with a student card. Check out the full programme here.

3. See a movie at PhotOn Festival 2017

For all you photojournalism fans, the International Photojournalism Festival PhotOn celebrates its new edition with a week of activities from May 2 to 6. This year’s edition will have conferences, workshops, guided tours and night shows showing the work of selected photojournalists, which is normally not published in the media.

4. Feel like a Valenciano at VESOS Festival

A post shared by Festival VESOS (@festivalvesos) on

If you’re looking to enjoy the spring discovering new things about Valencian culture, this is for you. The VESOS Festival is a cultural festival that promotes Valencian culture while also promoting sustainability, empowerment of the local economy, passion for craftsmanship, and sustainable trade and ecology. Head to Las Naves on May 6 and 7 to enjoy free concerts, plays, gastronomic stalls, workshops and exhibitions!

5. Go crazy at Festival De Les Arts

The Festival de les Arts returns for its third edition on June 9 and 10 in the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia. It’s a very successful festival with national and international artists combined (The Vaccines are headlining this year), with a wide range of food trucks at the Foodies Merkat and more activities. As they define themselves, the festival is born out “of the connection between music and artistic disciplines like design, illustration, fashion or gastronomy”. Tickets are on sale now!

6. Wear a disguise while running a 2km inflatable course

A post shared by Crazy Cross (@crazycross) on

It is the first inflatable 2km obstacle course in Europe, where fun and social action run hand in hand. The crazy challenge will be held in Paterna on June 10. To participate, a part of your entry will be destined to the investigation of Multiple Sclerosis, and it’s necessary to donate at least 1kg of food to the food banks of the municipality. And finally, you can also win prizes if you wear the most original and creative costume!

7. Explore Spanish history in Xàtiva

Cradle of the Los Borgia family, Xàtiva has overcome hard times and is one of the pearls of Valencian tourism. Visiting this city will be a very enriching experience, and even more so if you eat in one of its typical restaurants. Take the C2 Moixent train from Estació del Nord and arrive in Xàtiva less than an hour later!

8. Enjoy a sunset at El Saler

A post shared by Paula Vila Muñoz (@paulovear) on

The town of El Saler is one of the most visited towns around Valencia because of the number of people passing to the Albufera in search of a boat trip. There’s a big production of salt here, but what’s most impressive is its beach: a long extension of white sand, dunes, clean water, and a gentle breeze. Perfect for a long walk on a sunny day.
