5 vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Lisbon

Hello everyone

Portugal is known for having one of the best cuisines in the world. You’ll find delicious food at a great price all over the country and vegetarian and vegan people won’t be disappointed – at least not in Lisbon. Despite many of the most famous Portuguese dishes containing either meat or fish, the country’s capital offers a very good variety of animal-free restaurant options.

We’ve asked the local vegetarians and vegans which are their favourite spots in the city and listed below are the top five must-try vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Lisbon:

1. The Food Temple

A veteran of Lisbon’s vegan scene and remains a crowd favourite – the cosy ambience down one of Alfama’s cobblestone alleyways explains part of the status. At The Food Temple small menu offers meals and snacks – and, as it changes daily, the recommendation is to go there when you are ready to be surprised.  A meal including an entrance, the main course and a simple drink costs around 15€ per person.

Address: Beco do Jardim, nº18

2. Jardim Das Cerejas

Situated in the Chiado neighbourhood, the heart of the city, this restaurant offers a vegetarian buffet (8,50€ lunch / 10,50€ dinner) that always has great vegan-friendly options. Due to the strong Indian influence, Jardim das Cerejas is a good choice for those who want something a little different than usual.

Address 1: Calçada do Sacramento, nº 36
Address 2: Rua Andrade Corvo, nº 7B

4. Veganeats Caffé

Run by two Portuguese women, this place surprises you with vegan versions of typical Portuguese dishes, such as tofu à brás (which is usually made with cod and known as “bacalhau à brás”). At Veganeats Caffe you can enjoy a daily main dish, as well as smaller dishes  such as salads, soups and vegan sausages. You can’t miss their delicious desserts (a slice of cake cost around 1,75€).

Address: Rua Cavaleiro de Oliveira, n°42

5. Jardim dos Sentidos

This place is known as an Ayurvedic influenced lacto-vegetarian restaurant, with many vegan options. It has a wonderful garden where tables are placed for outdoor dining – a buffet is served at lunchtime and an a la carte service is available for dinner. Located near the famous Avenida de Liberdade, its great atmosphere gives Jardim dos Sentidos the title of the most attractive vegetarian restaurant in Lisbon.

Address: Rua da Mãe de Água, nº3

We hope you have the chance to try them all! #GoVegan and #GoVegetarian!
